This is my Top Ten favorite activities in the D by Margofitness trainer

If you come before the Norton MacAllister dates of July 24-26  there is a lot more you can do on your own. or maybe grab me or another cuz in the D and hang out. This is my Top Ten  favorite activities in the D says MargoFitness Trainer (Flossie Norton Grandmom)

  1. ONE Visit the Detroit section of the Wayne State University Campus bookstore aka Barnes and Nobles. Then I go grab a vegan/fruit smoothie to go, but I sit for the lamb kabob and the gyros at Epicurus (The entire Mediterranean/North African food thing is HUGE here because of the recruitment by the Big # automakers. There is even a Michelin starred Arabic restaurant here. ) Epicurus is at 111 west Warren at the south end of Wayne State University
  2. Eat  at  Epicurus and grab a beer  at Jumbos the oldest bar in Detroits old Cass Corridor
  3.  Jumbos Bar  3736 3rd St off Selden  48201 the last dive bar in Cass Corridor which is home to Wayne State University Cass Corridor  is famous for  a DIY performance  scene that Lily Tomlin came from she attended Wayne State University @ 1960 -1962  but dropped out  see this link of the DIY scene

Urban renewal has razed almost the whole Cass Corridor which makes it VERY SAFE compared to when Alice and  I went to WSU.  The only thing left of those days is

4. Go walk down Canfield Block to feel the cobblestone . This was a middle class area circa 1871- 1900 During the Victorian/Edwardian period the black population lived about 2 miles from here- almost downtown. However, Motown is at the edge of  Wayne State in a neighborhood called Woodbridge

The SEEN Detroit on a historic street
https://youtu.be/KpO_ig4OFRs5.Run around the corner to
441 W Canfield St
Detroit, MI 48201  to see if Jack White or some other band is pressing some VINYL /playing live at Third Man records.

6. walk over to Woodward to catch the  Q line to Campus Martius station downtown and go to the SkyScraper /Art Deco/Mayan Revival part of Detroit  The Lobby at 500 Griswold looks like it belongs in a SuperMan Movie.  Pure Detroit, a bank, and a healthy lunch under $11 are one of the reasons why Detroiters love this place.

7. American /Lafayette Coney Island  Both are 24 hours and they are related. Both use ground beef in their coney hotdogs as a sauce, unlike the famous Nathans in NYC. Next door to each other at
118 W Lafayette Blvd
Detroit, MI 48226

8. John Kings Bookstore. An institution. A skyscraper full of books. 901 West lafayette at 5th street. Take the bridge overpass that is  Lafayette over the freeway.

9. Detroit is the New Black  Store
1430 Woodward Avenue
      48226
Not a tourist store. Sells Aromatics. Stylish Clothes. Whatever.

10. Dumochelle Galleries

Everything from Native American articles to  jewelery and old Rolexes  to the statues  and cars of the truly wealthy.  Packed with gorgeous stuff  you do not need but should have some familiarity with. Fun rain or shine. Here is a sample of what you can explore:
